Children's dentist, Geelong
Over the years Wyatt Ryan Dental in Geelong has had the pleasure of looking after many children. In fact many of these children have grown up, had families of their own, and now bring in their children!
A visit to the Geelong Wyatt Ryan Clinic is a very positive experience for children of all ages. Our dedicated and experienced team of Geelong dentists ensure children feel very comfortable and enthusiastic about their visit to our practice. We encourage families to introduce their children to the dental ‘world’ from around the age of two. We often advise young children to attend when you are having your exam appointment so they can become familiar with all the new sights, sounds and smells of our dental environment. Often children want a ‘ride in the chair’ and are naturally inquisitive as to what is happening in your check up appointment and this, in turn, provides a great opportunity for our dentists to show and explain what is involved in ‘a visit to the dentist’. Children often become very excited about their first upcoming visit.
At Wyatt Ryan Dental, children’s dentistry has two major focuses – one is to provide a comfortable, relaxed environment and the other is to prevent dental decay. This means all children and their families are continually educated in oral hygiene and given dietary advice. Our goal is to instill a lifelong awareness of how to maintain a healthy mouth.
We recommend children attend our dental clinic in Geelong for regular check-ups, usually every six months. This allows the dentist to note any teeth that may appear to be at risk of decay and therefore implement preventative measures, or, to detect the start of tooth decay. Decay can be very rapid in children’s teeth, so early detection is paramount if the tooth is to be restored in a straightforward manner. Regular check-ups also enable our dentists to monitor the eruption patterns of new, adult teeth.
Fissure sealants are a common preventative technique used in children’s dentistry. They are a very effective way of reducing the risk of tooth decay in children’s adult molar teeth.
Placing a fissure sealant is a non-invasive and simple procedure. A thin tooth-coloured coating is applied to the deep grooves and pits of the molar teeth once they are accessible. The Fissure Sealant helps smooth out the biting surface of the teeth and therefore minimises food and plaque getting trapped. This means the risk of decay is greatly reduced. After a thorough examination our dentists can determine whether your children’s teeth would benefit from fissure sealants.
